Sisu 4 health

Yup, that is what I have named my soon (maybe) to be facebook page.  Blogs are hard to keep up with but facebook is so much easier.  A little blurp here, a little blurp there.  A quick update via phone. So much easier.  My life needs easy right now.

Now, I have not fully made up my mind on this.  However, I have been trying to find a blog that started at the beginning of the fitness challenge of a person. All the blogs I have read have been started AFTER a person has reached their goal. They try to backtrack but it just isnt the same.  I was especially interested in reading a blog about a person who has transformed their health while having a chronic illness.

Well, why not start one, I thought.

So, considering I have this blog already going, I will just tag along some posts here, but facebook will probably be the main place I post.

Ready for some fitness updates?!?  I hope I can keep this up!!

Buffalo Turkey (or chicken) Dip

This was a great way to use up that leftover turkey!!  Normally we end up throwing out the turkey or freezing it and then wondering what the heck to do with it later or what the heck is even in the bag!

Not anymore! This year's turkey was gone the next day!  A record in our family!

The Butterball website posted the recipe and it was wonderful!  I have also used mozzarella cheese in place of the cheddar with good results.

We have made it several times with chicken since Thanksgiving.  I have even put some in a hotdog bun to eat on the way to work...yum!!

Roast beef sandwich

This was so good, I think I have made it about 3-4 times in less than a month.

Yes, it is that good.

And everyone, but the picky girl, LOVES it.  EVERYONE, including friends.

Here is the recipes, thanks to Betty Crocker.  Gotta love good ol Betty.  She has some good recipes!

This can be changed up a bit. I added diced green, red, yellow peppers that were frozen.  You can even change out the meat.  Make it with ham and swiss cheese and broccoli and cauliflour, or even turkey and cheddar.  I haven't changed it up yet.  When I do, I am going to have to update.

This would be great with side dishes of mac n cheese or macaroni salad (which is what we did when our friends came over).  Normally the two pie crusts made enough for us for the meal without sides.  I just piled on the veggies so we get our serving's worth.

This was posted just a week or so ago on the $5 dinners website.  She has been posting some healthy meals lately, I am going to have to sit down and go through the site and find some more.

We all (well, not the girl, she is very picky) liked this recipe.  The only thing I changed was that I added more bacon, of course.

Definitely a make again!

Yeah, that phrase just came in my head.  No reason, really.  Hmm..maybe one of the boys hummed...who knows?

I have been trying out new recipes lately.  I was thinking, "How in the world am I going to keep track of all the ones I like?"  and "How will I be able to write notes about what I did different if I just simply bookmark?"

I have been posting them to my personal facebook page, but then I have to scroll down and try to find them.  It isn't easy.  Then it occurred to me to do a post about the recipe. Considering I am the only one who reads this blog, why not??  I can then provide a link to the recipe and also describe what we all liked about it and what I may have done different or what I need to do different in the future.

Yup, that is what I am going to do.  It is not like I do anything else with the blog right now since I work and go to school and have kids still in school.

I am sure I will post my random vents and such, you know, in between the recipes and all.

Such as...my frustration with learning the autonomic nervous system and the drugs that go mimic or alter it.  ARGH!!!

Warm winter quinoa salad

I hate salads.

Really, I do.

Except for chicken salad...and tuna salad....and fruit salad. Maybe Taco salad...if I am in the mood.

All the other ones, YUCK!  Just something about them I just do not like...the crunch maybe??

Anyway, I found another salad I do like.  There is not crunch.  It is warm.  It is yummy.

It has arugula.  It has Quinoa.  It has tomato sauce.  And a few other things.  This is one that is a keeper.

Try it.  Even my husband, who can get picky, says "it is a make again, just not right away".  That means it is good.

Baby steps

You know that movie, What About Bob?

I LOVE that movie.

It has meaning.  And it is funny!

When my mom was alive and she would start her spiral down into depression, I would always bring up that movie by asking her, "What about Bob, mom?"  This would normally bring a smile to her face and one of us would mention, "baby steps".

Yep, that is all it takes. Baby steps.

I recently began thinking of that movie again as I am beginning my own baby steps adventure.  I am taking control of my life.  I am not letting depression get me as it got my mom. I am also not going to let rheumatoid arthritis get me either. This is 2013 and this is the year I take control. I am going to do it by taking baby steps!

There will be no "by this month, I will weigh this much and can do this and this".  Nope. Those are too distinct goals and I just may not reach and then I will feel like I failed.  I just want to get healthy.  Yup.  That is my big goal. TO. GET. HEALTHY

I signed up for a 5K in April.  I barely can walk three miles right now, but you know what? By the time April comes, I will be able to.  Heck, I may even be able to jog some of it.  I have already started my training for it.  One tiny baby step at a time!
